Children not old or big enough to use a trailer bike but too large to fit into a child seat can be towed along in a child bike trailer.

In addition to the ability to safely seat one or two children with seat belts, a good child trailer design will offer a modular platform with the ability to add and remove accessories (usually sold at additional cost) depending on the application, for example, cycling, walking, jogging or even cross-country skiing.
2-in-1 or multi-function bicycle trailer / jogging stroller / sled / etc are practical for very active lifestyles but build quality differs significantly between manufacturers.

Be aware that not all joggers and jogger-kits comply with regulations in the USA, Canada and the whole of Europe except for the UK. They do not satisfy British standards for "perambulators" and therefore should not be used in the UK; they are only supplied for use abroad.
For closer interaction with your child or children but lacking the ability to carry cargo beyond on the front rack, a moederfiets or child transporter could be an alternative.
